CRIC 1

Following decision at COP 5, by which, inter alia, the Conference of the Parties (COP) decided to establish the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC) and defined its terms of reference, the UNCCD secretariat has undertaken various steps to facilitate the reporting process in preparation for the first session of CRIC. Reports submitted by affected country Parties, as well as those submitted by United Nations agencies, inter-governmental organisations and developed country Parties, constituted the basis for the review at the first session of the CRIC, following a peer review of reports by affected country Parties taking place during the regional meetings that correspond to the regional implementation annexes of the Convention. In addition, the review of reports on the promotion of relations with other conventions and on the financing of the Convention, prepared by the secretariat in response to the mandate given to the CRIC by decision 1/COP.5, was also included in the agenda of the Committee at its first inter-sessional meeting.
